FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is the Eden to Addo an existing trail?
No. This hiking opportunity is an annual fundraising hike event. In years to come it could be turned into a permanent hiking trail linking the corridor through private lands and connecting existing national parks and conservation areas. This will depend on the willingness of the landowners and on a management authority.

Is this the longest assisted "Slackpack" route in South Africa?
Yes. As far as we know there is no other single trail that even comes close to the distance of the Eden to Addo - Great Corridor Hike where safari tented camps are set up each night and all meals are catered for and the route through dangerous animal regions is guided.

Why are hikers not carrying all their own food and tents?
The distance of over 400km that constitutes the route, means each walker would have to carry food for 6 days at a time. To make the hike more accessible to a diverse range of people we have decided to have the main packs transported from camp to camp, as this allows for hikers to relax and enjoy the remarkable landscapes where we will be walking. Make no mistake this is an endurance hike and so even though you only carry a day-pack the hiking is still tough.

What if we want to walk as a family?
Families are welcome and the participation donation remains the same for each walker. BVookings of 4 or more together receive a 10% discount.

Is The Eden to Addo a wilderness experience?
Yes and No. The hike traverses not only national parks, but also passes through active farms and small communities. Wilderness sections of the hike include the forests of Knysna and the Baviaanskloof.

How far is The Eden to Addo?
400km give or take a few, depending on the route in any one year. Simple walking but tough distances each day, moderate to endurance fitness is required. You will walk anywhere from 15km to 26km a day on average. A full rest day is scheduled to let your feet catch up and to enjoy the magic of some of the places we will be walking through. The longest day on the hike is 35km.

What do I need to bring?
